Expectations for Team Members
The members of the Dance Masters Youth Team not only represent the studio, but they also represent the community in which we live. We want to select representatives who will enhance the reputation that has been built by coaches and team members in the past. Besides possessing and developing dance skills, students must be excellent team members.
Among the qualities we expect are:
Cooperation
Dedication
Teachability
Respect for others
Physical vigor
Flexibility
Rhythmic skills
Self-motivation
Academic awareness
Varsity
Please be aware of the following time requirements and expectations
Class
Varsity members must attend the class which is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 pm-5:30 pm. Team members will also be expected to wear proper dance wear to team practice. Team wear consists of black leggings, team t-shirt, syllabus skirt, and dance shoes for ladies, and practice Latin pants, black warm up pants, team t-shirt, and dance shoes for men. Hats are not allowed as practice attire.
If for any reason a team member cannot be to or participate fully in class it is the responsibility of the dancer to notify the Coach BEFORE class starts. Text or email. Do NOT miss class. It is crucial everyone is there every time. It is hard to keep progressing if classes are missed. Do not send a message with another team member. You must contact the Coach directly. Team members may be removed from dance routine(s) on the second absence.
Extra Rehearsals
Extra rehearsals are required around performance and competition times. They will be scheduled in advance. The months of January through May are busy with competitions and shows which require extra rehearsals. Saturday morning medley rehearsals are required January through mid-March, along with special choreographer work days on President's Day and MLK day.
Competitions and Performances
Students are required to compete in at least two individual competitions during the year. We expect all of our dancers to learn and compete in syllabus and / or open events. This helps us become better and strengthens each dancer.
Students will be performing at various events throughout the year. Some of these performances include: school outreach assemblies, competitions (individual as well as team), concerts, basketball halftimes, and others that may come our way.
Tardies
Roll will be taken at the beginning of every class / team practice. If the student is not present at the time their name is called they will be counted tardy. If the student is more than 10 minutes late at an extra rehearsal they will be counted tardy. Five tardies over 10 minutes may earn probation (leaving the class early without permission is the same as a tardy).
Standards
Any team member participating in illegal or immoral activities will be dismissed. Among these activities include alcohol, smoking, drugs, sexual misconduct, huffing, vaping, and the like.
Probation
Probation is the loss of performance and possible activity privileges. The length of probation may be 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the seriousness of the infraction.
