Behind the Scenes: How We’re Preparing for Summer ARTS Camp

While families are juggling end-of-school-year events, our team is quietly (and excitedly) getting ready for summer. We thought it might be fun to share a peek behind the scenes so you can see what goes into building Summer ARTS Camp.

In the weeks leading up to camp, we’re:

1. Finalizing weekly themes

We’re mapping out themes that tie together music, dance, visual arts, and theatre. That might look like:

Storytelling through movement.
Rhythm and song from different cultures.
Character, costume, and setting in theatre.

Each theme is designed so campers can create something performance‑ready in five days, whether they’re with us for one week or all seven.

2. Building age-appropriate curriculum

Our instructors design parallel experiences for:

Ages 6–11: More guided exploration, games, and shorter creative tasks.
Ages 12–15: Deeper skill-building, more autonomy, and chances to take artistic risks.

We also plan how projects can “stack” from week to week for returning campers, while still feeling complete for kids who join us for just one or two weeks.

3. Gathering supplies and costume pieces

From rhythm instruments to craft materials (yes, including a healthy stash of googly eyes), we’re stocking up on what we’ll need so your child can dive in from day one. We also set aside budget for costume elements and performance-specific pieces that kids can take home at the end of the week.

4. Planning Friday sharing times

Every week builds toward a simple Friday showcase where kids can:

Perform a short dance or musical number.
Present a scene or skit.
Share their visual art in a mini gallery.

These are intentionally low-pressure but high-celebration moments. They give kids a reason to focus during the week and a chance to stand a little taller by Friday.

5. Watching registration to shape groups

As registrations come in, we’re watching ages and weeks closely. Knowing in advance whether we have more younger or older campers in a given week helps us plan groupings, staffing, and curriculum. That’s one reason we close registration by May 31—so we have time to plan with your child in mind.
